With over 60 years of experience we put great emphasis on a strong female base, which comprises 180 cows. This maternal strength, as the backbone of our breeding program enables us to produce a balanced genetic package, retaining the constitution, conformation & structural soundness of the Angus breed. A versatile, easy care dam, requiring low input is required on our steep hill country. Along with this toughness, the dams must have excellent mothering & milking ability with a natural femininity & style which we believe is essential in breeding top class off-spring. They must be highly fertile & we like to see them wean at least half their body weight.

Success of the Studs breeding program is measured by the return of our clients, both with the dollar return and also the conception rates and calving percentage.

Turiroa Stud has occasionally used A.I. and E.T., however we prefer to use natural mating. Our cattle are run in a strictly commercial environment and are worked with dogs. The cattle are grass fed with a little meadow hay from May onwards.
